Woodpecker Heaven
I have been able to capture several woodpeckers at the Mariner in Joppatowne. This Northern "Yellow-shafted" Flicker make its presence known once in a while. I happen to catch this one by chance parking next to a tree.
The most common woodpecker in the park is the Downy Woodpecker. This female is enjoying making a lot of noise pounding away on this tree.
It is a little harder to catch this guy leaving his marks on the trees. The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker leaves a nice pattern on each tree. You can see why they call him a yellow-bellied.
One of my favorite is the Red-bellied Woodpecker. It is easy to catch a good shot of him. He loves the peanuts that I put out for the squirrels.
.
One of the newest one that I have been able to catch is the Hairy Woodpecker. It has not been easy to get a good enough picture to post. The hairy and downy look so much a like, that it took me a while to realize that this one was a hairy.
The Pileated Woodpecker just happen to fly onto this tree and stayed long enough for me to get one shot off. This is the best I can do to make it clear enough to view.
The one woodpecker that will make my list complete has yet to make a showing. There is one woodpecker that I have not seen at the Mariner, the Red-headed Woodpecker. It will truly be a woodpecker heaven for me if he ever shows up at the Mariner.

Only Redheaded woodpecker I have ever seen was in Kansas. It was exciting; Is there a possibility of seeing one here?
