Peanut Treat

Every time that I go to the Mariner, I have my peanuts ready for the squirrels. The squirrels really have to work to get the peanut I throw out. The blue jays, red-bellied woodpecker and the cardinals flies in and sometimes get the peanuts before the squirrels can get to them.

For some of the other birds, I have to break up the shells. The nuthatch, titmouse and Carolina wren prefer it this way.  This day I was surprise to see a mocking bird grab a peanut. They love the bird seeds that I put on the post. So, it was unusual to see him with the nut in his beak.

The peanut treats helps me to enjoy the creatures who call the Mariner home.
